When your friend updates your itinerary, you'll get notified by email and at your trip home page.
This example is from a real trip over New Year's Eve, 2010.
I've listed a number of restaurants by your hotel in your guide. They'll all be open and there'll be plenty of others all around the area.

From your hotel, take an uptown or train one stop to 34th St (5 minutes), then an uptown train six stops to 81st St (10 minutes). The museum is right outside the exit. Total travel time: 20-25 minutes.

There's a Shake Shack branch just behind the museum at 77th Street. You should *seriously* consider this lunch.

From the museum, hop back on a downtown train and take it four stops to 47-50th St (10 minutes). This puts you right in Rockefeller Center.

Definitely arrive on time for this. By subway, take a downtown or train four stops to Bowling Green (10 minutes), then walk west to Battery Park. The Statue chapter in your guide has a map showing where to walk.

South Street Seaport has an excellent view the bridge. It's just a 10-minute walk east from Battery Park (hug the edge around South St and you can't miss it).

On the way, consider stopping at Adrienne's Pizza Bar on Stone St for superb "square" pizza in a style you probably haven't tried before.
- Greg, Dec 15, 8:03 PM
Katz's is in the Lower East Side, at Houston St & Ludlow St. It's hard to reach by subway: go for a taxi instead (it's a 5-10 minute ride).

But on the way back home, you can hop on an uptown train at 1st Avenue and take it three stops to 14th St, where you can take a Brooklyn-bound train one stop back to your hotel.

Where can we get lunch nearby?

There are some okay cafes inside the museum and plenty of hot dog stands immediately outside. Otherwise, wait until you're closer to your next place (east of Lexington Ave), you'll find more restaurants in that area.

How much time will this take?

A one-way ride takes between 5 and 10 minutes. But you should also check out the incredible view of Manhattan once you're on Roosevelt Island. So give yourself about an hour total.
- Greg, Dec 19, 8:00 PM
At the New World Stages: 340 W. 50th St (between 8th and 9th Avenues). From the RI Tram, you can take a downtown train three stops to 49th St (5 minutes), then walk west (10 minutes) to the theater.

Central Park: Belvedere Castle, Bethesda Fountain, etc.

From your hotel, take an uptown train five stops to 59th St / 5th Ave (10 minutes), which puts you right in the southeast corner of the park.
- Greg, Dec 22, 5:11 PM

Or, if you want to start at Belvedere Castle, follow the directions to the Museum of Natural History, which is across the street from the castle.
- Greg, Dec 23, 10:16 AM
Afterwards, check out the Shake Shack across the street in Madison Square Park. This is a gourmet burgers/fries "shack" operated by a famous New York chef. It's great stuff!
